A storm chase game: outrun a tornado in a car

By Nuică Roger

Apocalypse Sandbox opens with a car parked near the aliens' landing site, and the tornado is only seconds away. Chase Mode puts you behind the wheel: drive through a town that is coming apart and keep ahead of the storm. It is a free 3D game in the browser, with no download.

Free in your browser, no download. Best on a laptop; it works on a phone too.

Chase Mode

Choose Chase Mode and you drive while the funnel pulls in trees, cars and pieces of buildings around you. Fallen buildings lie across the streets and their rubble stays in heaps, so the way out changes as the storm works. Once a funnel is down, the whole town reacts: people run for shelters and emergency vehicles head into the damage.

One thumb on a phone

On a touch screen you put a thumb down anywhere on the game and push: up is gas, down is reverse and sideways steers. An exit button sits in the corner, a line of help fades after a moment, and the panel steps aside while you drive.

Be the storm instead

Control Tornado hands you the funnel, with the same joystick on a phone, and Tornado View orbits a camera around it. In Play mode the hero can also climb into any parked car, which protects him from alien grabs and rays.
